The Santa Maria Police Department arrested one driver at a DUI checkpoint Friday night for driving a car without a license or with a suspended or revoked license.

The police department said it screened 185 cars at the checkpoint located at 1600 N. Broadway between 6 p.m. Friday night and 3 a.m. Saturday morning. Officers made one arrest and issued one citation.

Officers didn’t make any arrests for alcohol-related or drug-related DUI. The police department says no one was found to be in possession of illegal drugs.

Santa Maria police say the checkpoints are strategically placed in areas where officers expect to find drunk or drugged drivers.

The police department said it will be conducting another DUI checkpoint in the upcoming months as part of its commitment to lower deaths and injuries on the roads.
