The prison was placed on modified operations late last week for a security review.

(3/9/19) – The U.S. Penitentiary in Lompoc was placed on modified operations for a review of internal security procedures as of Friday, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Visitations have been suspended until further notice because of modified operations, according to the state-federal prison’s website.

According to the press release, the institution will resume full operational status as soon as possible.

Officials did not comment on what incident may have prompted the modifications.

The U.S. Department of Justice said the public is not in any danger during the review.

The U.S. Penitentiary in Lompoc houses about 1,277 male offenders.
