Cal Poly forestry students participate in firefighting drills

Some Cal Poly students participated in a series of fire drills Friday as part of their course work.

Professor Doug Aversano’s Wildland Fire Control class learned about the ins and outs of a fire truck and all of the equipment that goes into a fire response.

It lets them dive deeper into their majors through Cal Poly’s “Learn by Doing” principle.

“Going into this class, I know what a fire truck is, I know what a handline crew is and stuff, but we don’t really know what’s on a fire truck. Like, how do you do a hose pull, how do you work it and stuff. I feel like this class has just helped tremendously in that aspect,” said Thomas Jimenez, Cal Poly Forestry and Natural Resources student.

The students take on this exercise as another step in earning their firefighter certification.
