City of Goleta to manage Santa Ynez Valley libraries

The City of Goleta is taking over management of the Buellton, Solvang, Los Olivos, and Santa Ynez libraries.

The change goes into effect on July 1.

Patrons of those libraries will need to get a new library card. The cards are available at any Santa Ynez Valley library branch and will work at any public library in Santa Barbara County.

The libraries in the Santa Ynez Valley were previously managed by the City of Santa Barbara.

The City of Goleta has been managing the Goleta Valley Library for the past year in an effort to increase services and reduce costs, and city officials say they’ve seen a lot of success.

“Goleta’s taking on management of the Goleta Valley Library has been relatively smooth,” said Mayor Paula Perotte in a statement released Monday. “I see a sense of renewed excitement when people talk about the services and resources available at our local library. And now we are excited to begin working with our neighbor libraries in the north.”

The library in Buellton is looking for volunteers to help with the transition by placing new labels and barcodes on all books and materials. To help, contact Judith Dale at judith@hwy246.net.
