Community leaders in Oceano are looking at a special tax that would generate enough money to continue paying for the Five Cities Fire Authority service.
Residents can expect to see the new tax on the March 2020 ballot.
If voters reject it, Oceano will have to withdraw from the fire services contract it shares with the cities of Grover Beach and Arroyo Grande.
In that case, Oceano would have to look for other fire services such as CAL FIRE.
Leaders hope to calculate the tax and other options by mid-July.
