Students in first through sixth grades were recognized for their artwork at the Fifth Annual Youth Art Poster Contest for the Santa Barbara Metropolitan Transit District.

The theme of this year’s art contest was “Celebration Buses” to mark the 50th anniversary of the MTD. More than 85 pieces were entered into the contest. Students participated from several schools in the area, as well as the Isla Vista Youth Projects, Carpinteria Boys & Girls Club, City of Santa Barbara RAP Program, Girls, Inc. and the Downtown Santa Barbara Boys & Girls Club.

First place for artists in first through third grade went to second grader Alexandria Dueñas from Aliso School. Fifth grader Emma Hayden from Coastline Christian Academy won in the fourth through sixth grade division.

The winning works of art will be displayed inside of MTD buses throughout the next year.
