Preschools across San Luis Obispo County are celebrating children for reading books all throughout the school year through the Raising a Reader program.
19 kids and their families will be honored on Wednesday in Oceano at the Oceano Community Park as the Early Learning Center Preschool students will be receiving their Love of Reading Awards. They also will be given Blue Summer Book Bags to come and check books out at the library throughout the summer to continue their reading skills.
The Atascadero Learning will host a similar event for Raising a Reader at the San Gabriel Elementary School in Atascadero on Thursday. The Nipomo Early Learning Center Preschool will also be putting on their recognition celebration on the Nipomo High School campus on Friday.
The Raising a Reader initiative teaches children from a young age about developing early language skills, understanding vocabulary and communicating with adults.
