Santa Barbara police identify victim, suspect in Tuesday homicide

UPDATE (2:40 p.m.) – The Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office on Thursday officially charged Leon with one count of willful, premeditated, and deliberate murder.

He is being held on $1 million bail and is scheduled to appear in court on June 7 for arraignment.


 

(11:13 a.m.) – Santa Barbara police have released new details about a homicide that occurred on Tuesday, June 4.

Shortly before 5 p.m. that day, police say dispatchers received a 911 call about a domestic violence disturbance and could hear a woman crying over the phone.

When officers arrived at the apartment complex in the first block of S. Soledad St., they reportedly found a woman dead inside one of the apartments.

A man at the scene, identified as Omar Alberto Leon, 28, reportedly surrendered to police and was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail on a charge of murder.

The victim has been identified as Lilia Munoz, 29. Police say she lived in the apartment with Leon.
