The City of Arroyo Grande is renaming the Elm Street Community Center after a former mayor and council member.
The mayor and city council hosted a public dedication Friday afternoon for the newly renamed Mark M. Millis Community Center.
They decided to name the center after Millis for his contributions to local politics as well as his time as an educator.
Millis is known as a staple in the community and the city council wanted to honor his work through the dedication.
“His service was focused on families and on communities so he made it a point to dedicate his service to building family relationships and he did that through recreation, and he supported parks and he supported the programming within this community,” said Sheridan Bohlken, Recreation Services Director.
In attendance at the event included friends and family of Millis, as well as other former mayors and city council members.
