Santa Barbara County Animal Services is waiving fees for pet owners whose lost animals end up in the shelter.
Animal Services is preparing for an influx of pets around the 4th of July holiday and looking to make space for incoming animals.
The “Return to Owner Amnesty” period will be in place from now through July 6, 2019.
Impound fees, which typically range from $75 to more than $300, will be waived during this period.
Animal Services says pet owners who are missing an animal should visit their local shelter immediately. Proof of ownership in the form of veterinary records, microchips, and/or photos is required to claim a pet.
Return to Owner Amnesty does not apply to animals that have been confiscated, are on bite quarantine, or are under investigation.
Santa Barbara County Animal Services shelters are located at 548 W. Foster Rd. in Santa Maria, 1501 W. Central Ave. in Lompoc, and 5473 Overpass Rd. in Santa Barbara, and are open from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
