A San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s K9 is showing improvement after veterinarians said he may never walk again.

In March, Hondo underwent surgery to correct several compressed/herniated discs in his spine. In the following months, he underwent three additional surgeries.

Sheriff’s officials say it has been a challenging recovery as the dog faced several complications.

But just recently, Hondo was able to take his first steps and the sheriff’s office shared the exciting moment on social media.

Hondo joined the sheriff’s office in 2013. He and his handler, Deputy Bryan Love, have been partners for the past six years.

Hondo is reportedly receiving treatment from the North County Animal Hospital and Beacon Veterinary Specialists.
