Fort Hunter Liggett said it responded to a vegetation fire off Nacimiento Ferguson road Tuesday night.
The fire grew to about 1,600 acres and was contained around 3 a.m. Wednesday morning, according to the Fort Hunter Liggett Facebook page. The fire was still visible in nearby areas Wednesday morning.
Fort Hunter Liggett officials said the fire was in a training area and firefighters are continuing mop-up operations throughout the day.
CALFIRE and Los Padres Forrest firefighters responded to the fire.
