The San Luis Obispo Library partnered with Shower the People to cut the ribbon on a new portable public shower unit and give people free showers on Sundays.

Hot showers are offered on a first come first serve basis to those who are without them.

The nonprofit also provides towels, boxer shorts, socks and various toiletries to people using the showers.

Volunteers with Shower the People say they are helping a population that often goes unseen.

The organization says people have even been able to get jobs and promotions because of their showers.

“We all know what it’s like to take a warm shower when you haven’t showered in a while. (It) feels so good so they come out new people,” said Rick Grether, Shower Trailer Operations Manager.

Shower the People will offer complimentary showers every Sunday from 1:30 p.m.- 3:30 p.m., at the San Luis Obispo Library.
