People who live in San Luis Obispo County could hear a low growl on Tuesday and Wednesday because the County of Emergency Services will test out its Early Warning System Sirens located in the Diablo Canyon Emergency Planning Zone (EPZ).

This is a regularly scheduled growl test.

The County of Emergency Services said all 131 sirens throughout the EPZ will be tested out individually for a couple of seconds throughout the day.

The sirens were installed as a requirement for the operation of the Diablo Canyon Power Plant but can be used for any local emergency. This includes a tsunami, dam failure, or other natural or man-made disasters.

During an emergency, the Early Warning System is activated from Cayucos to the north of Nipomo Mesa. When these sirens are on, the county said it means the Emergency System Alert has been activated.
