Five paramedic students, one nursing student and one physician assistant student were recently awarded $3,000 each as recipients of the Christopher Meadows Memorial EMS Scholarship.

The scholarship honors the memory of a local EMT who was killed while responding to an emergency call at the Oceano Dunes in May of 2009.

It was established ten years ago by a couple of Meadows' co-workers at San Luis Ambulance and has since awarded 58 scholarships worth a total of more than $130,000.

This year's recipients are Miguel Reyes from Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo, Gaston Lau from City College of San Francisco, Molly Ayres from Las Positas College in Livermore, Jacqueline Blumeyer from Santa Rosa Junior College, Aldina Thornberry from Foothill College in Sunnyvale, Skyler Robertson from the University of Montana, and Timothy Ulleseit from the Oregon Health & Science University in Portland.
