On Tuesday, a Righetti High School club cooked for 110 people at the Good Sam Homeless Shelter in Santa Maria.

The school's Kindness Club also collected and donated socks, blankets and decorations for the shelter.

“Heartwarming smiles and thankful kind wishes were given to us in return for our hard work on the special dinner,’’ said club president and founder Isaiah Moon. “We had been planning this event for weeks and it turned out very successful. The Christmas season is when most groups decide to volunteer at the shelter, but in the coming months, like January through March, the shelter is often left without volunteers and needs help serving the community dinners.’’

The Kindness Club had about 12 of their 25 members participate for the event; the purpose of the club is to give back to the community, said the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District in a press release. The club wants to show that anyone can give back to their community, regardless of their position.
