The City of Atascadero invited residents, businesses, and visitors to share their ideas on what services they would like to see on the El Camino Real Corridor Saturday afternoon.

The event took place outside of the Atascadero City Hall from 11 a.m. to 2p.m.

The plan is focused on accommodating new business, housing, pedestrians, bicycles and cars.

According to the city, one of its top priorities with the proposal is improving the jobs-to-housing ratio.

The city hopes to provide residents more opportunities to work closer to home.

"We're receiving input on design ideas for the circulation improvements and how buildings should look and what should go in each of the locations , so people are providing feedback on what they think will make El Camino Real successful," said Phil Dunsmore, the city's community development director.

City officials also say the improvement would reduce the need for residents to travel out of town for additional dining, entertainment or retail options.

Jim Berg has lived in Atascadero since 1983 and says it's good to see the city's progress toward an upgraded business area.

"Actually I think what Atascadero needs the most is clothing stores," said Berg. "I mean I don't know about something like a Kohl's but that kind of department store or something where you can buy a pair of shoes or buy pants."

The city will continue to ask for feedback in the upcoming weeks.

Based on proposals, the city council will adopt a conception plan that will help guide future planning throughout Atascadero.
