UPDATE (9:45 p.m.) -CAL FIRE SLO officials said the kayaker was able to paddle himself back to shore.
Emergency crews helped guide him using spotlights.
The kayaker did not need medical attention, fire officials say.

ORIGINAL STORY (9:38 p.m.) - CAL FIRE SLO is responding to reports of a water rescue in Montana de Oro.
According to fire officials, CAL FIRE SLO received a call for a distressed kayaker about 200 feet out from Spooners Cove.

The Morro Bay Harbor Patrol is also assisting with the rescue.
