Cal Poly is releasing a preliminary admissions report for the incoming fall class.

More than 52,000 first-time freshmen applied to the university. Of those, nearly 18,000 were selected for admission.

Another almost 11,000 transfer students applied but only a little more than 2,000 were admitted.

The university says those not offered admittance included more than 12,000 first-time freshmen and 340 transfer students, who had GPAs above a 4.0.

The admissions process is still underway.

May 1 is the deadline for admitted applicants to respond with their decision.
