Caltrans is beginning the next phase of construction on Highway 101 in the San Miguel area with a paving operation starting Tuesday.

The project includes the realignment of the roadway to create a new southbound on-ramp on the right at South Mission Street, paving along the highway and lowering Highway 101 to reach the minimum bridge clearance height. Crews are also expected to improve drainage systems, guardrail and lighting along the way.

Drivers can expect to see full ramp closures from Tuesday at 6 a.m. to Friday, August 30, at 2 p.m.

Ramps expected to be closed during the paving include:

· Southbound Highway 101 on-ramp at the Camp Roberts Overcrossing
· Southbound Highway 101 on/off-ramps at the South Camp Roberts Overhead
· Northbound Highway 101 on/off-ramps at the South Camp Roberts Overhead

Caltrans suggests drivers take a detour on the nearest ramps to their desired highway entrance or exit. Those traveling on Highway 101 northbound can exit via the 10th Street off-ramp to Mission Street. Those going southbound on Highway 101 can take the Mission Street exit to the northbound ramp at 10th Street.
