Caltrans began installing debris flow nets above Highway 1 in Monterey County this week.
The nets are being installed following the Dolan Fire that broke out due to arson in August.
Caltrans says this is part of their winter storm prep which begins well before the winter storm season.
The netting keeps large rocks and debris from reaching the highway, especially when it begins to rain.
The Dolan Fire remains at 98% containment and has burned over 124,000 acres.
