The City of Grover Beach is looking for local artists to help paint utility boxes located along West Grand Ave.
There are eight large utility boxes with several small adjacent accessory utility boxes along the roadway from 4th St. to Oak Park Blvd.
City officials want to put artwork on the boxes to enhance the current aesthetic of Grover Beach and promote the spirit of the area.
To be eligible to submit art to the program, you must be a San Luis Obispo County resident. You can apply as an individual artist or as a part of a group. Submissions will be reviewed by the City of Grover Beach Public Art Group and the Parks, Recreation & Beautification Commission. Final approval will be given by the City Council.
Those selected to paint the boxes will be given $1,000 per large utility box to complete the artwork. Artists are expected to also sand and prime the boxes before painting and then applying a final protective covering.
You can apply for the opportunity to paint one of the utility boxes by logging on to the City of Grover Beach website and filling out the application.
