The City of Santa Barbara said it has successfully cleaned-up 93 unauthorized encampments on city streets, freeway on-ramps and off-ramps over the past two years.

It says in order to continue to clean-up these encampments the city has taken three new steps to improve and expand its services.

They include:

  1. Added 50k in funding for fiscal year 2020.
  2. Identified frequently inhabited areas and developed a systematic clean-up schedule to address those locations.
  3. Implemented two new options for reporting of encampments through its Illegal Encampment Clean-Up Request Web Form and the Illegal Encampment Clean-Up Request Hotline at 805-564-5558.

Any unauthorized encampments reported through the web form or the hotline are logged, assessed and people are dispatched to clean them up according to how much of a threat they pose to public health and safety.

The City of Santa Barbara said social services is provided to anyone displaced during these clean-ups.
