The City of Santa Maria hosted a caravan Friday encouraging people to participate in the 2020 census.

Organizers used a digital billboard truck to draw people's attention. They were located near South Bradley Road and Edwards Santa Maria Cinemas.

This campaign is meant to remind people of the importance of the 2020 census count.

The event was a collaboration between county and city organizations, and the California Complete Count.

The deadline to respond was September 30, but Friday a federal judge ordered to extend the head count another month through the end of October.
