UPDATE: Officials with San Luis Obispo County say the artifact found is likely a piece of brick foundation from the previous Hall of Records building.

The county says the project is being completed by The Regional Transit Authority (RTA) on county property. The permit is under the city of San Luis Obispo.

County officials say the old Hall of Records building was associated with the 1873 courthouse, and in 1942 it was a used as a temporary jail. They say when the new courthouse was built, the Hall of Records was demolished.

Officials say they are now in the documentation process.
