Crews at San Luis Ranch are moving on to the next phase of construction by moving two historic buildings from their original placement to a new site set to be open to the public.
A single-family home and a barn were moved to the newly proposed Agricultural Heritage Center, which will be located on the northeast corner of the San Luis Ranch development.
Both the barn and home were built in the early 1900’s, and the City of San Luis Obispo classifies them as “historically significant.” The process of moving the buildings start in May of 2018 by going through documentation to research the history behind the facilities.
They will be a part of the Agricultural Heritage Center to provide a space to learn more about San Luis Obispo’s history in agricultural and its impact along the Central Coast in the ag industry.
“San Luis Obispo has such a strong history in agriculture and we really want people to be able to come here and celebrate that, visit here and picnic,” said Cate Norton, public relations manager of San Luis Ranch.
The center will be open to all, including members of the local community as well as visitors traveling through the area.
“We're also very excited to have this agricultural center for the entire community, whether or not you are going to be living here or just to come and celebrate with your family,” said Norton.
There will also be an interpretive center that will tell the stories of San Luis Ranch and the surrounding area.
San Luis Ranch is expected to offer several housing areas for local residents, as well as community gathering spaces, a 50-acre organic farm and retail shops. Construction on housing and commercial buildings will begin in spring of 2020.
