Assemblyman Jordan Cunningham (R-San Luis Obispo) announced Aug. 26 he introduced a resolution naming Sept. 21, 2019, as California Coastal Cleanup Day.

"Each year, thousands of volunteers from throughout the state converge on our beaches to help keep them clean and pristine for the next generation," said Cunningham.

On Saturday morning, hundreds of people along the Central Coast and thousands of others in the country will gather at their local beaches, rivers, creeks and parks to beautify the area and to celebrate the annual event.

Coastal Cleanup Day, also called Heal the Bay, is reportedly the world's largest volunteer day, according to the Coastal Cleanup Day website.

The California Coastal Commission has been the primary sponsor of Coastal Cleanup Day since 1985.
