ECHO Homeless Shelter in Atascadero is in need of volunteers during the overnight hours.

ECHO says the need for volunteers during the summer is always up but the pandemic has increased the need even more.

They call the need “urgent,” saying volunteers have dropped by about 60 percent due to their age or Cal Poly students not being in the area anymore.

People who are healthy and between the ages of 18 and 64 are encouraged to apply.

Volunteers would be required to stay at the shelter from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following day to act as chaperones alongside a chaperon manager.

They sleep in shifts and stand watch to record any significant events while also working with children at the shelter.

ECHO says this helps them better manage the shelter and adds that many volunteers say the experience is life-changing.
