Fire crews are planning a series of prescribed burns to help reduce the risk for wildfires.

Depending on weather conditions, crews will start burning piles Monday and then continue through April near Figueroa Mountain and other forest locations.

Burn operations begin at 7:30 a.m. and finish at 5 p.m.

In addition to reducing the risk for wildfires, prescribed burns protects water quality by decreasing sediment and ash in runoff.

Burns are coordinated by the Los Padres National Forest with Santa Barbara County APCD, San Luis Obispo County APCD, San Joaquin Valley APCD, Ventura County APCD and the California Air Resources Board.
