Firefighters with the San Luis Obispo City Fire Department and CAL FIRE SLO extinguished an apartment fire in San Luis Obispo that left five people displaced early Saturday morning.

Officials said units responded to initial reports of a structure fire on the 800 block of Islay Street at around 3 a.m.

The fire damaged a total of five residential units: one was a complete loss; two were moderately damaged and two had minor damages, according to fire officials.

According to fire crews, the Red Cross Central California sheltered three displaced residents of the destroyed unit, while two others are staying with family. Officials said there were no injuries.

SLO City Fire issued three Supplying Aid to Victims of Emergency (SAVE) cards to the victims of the destroyed unit so they can purchase basic necessities, such as food, clothing or medicine, said fire officials.

Fire crews say they are investigating the cause of the structure fire.
