The City of Grover Beach honored resident Tom Rehder earlier this month by awarding him with the Citizen of the Year award.

Rehder went to high school in Santa Maria and is now the owner of Mongo's Saloon and 3 Fat Guys Diner in Grover Beach.

He is a former NFL player and offensive lineman with the New England Patriots and New York Giants.

Rehder is also the only person to have both a Super Bowl ring and World Bowl ring.

He told KSBY News: "By giving back and participating and becoming involved, you have a chance to make a difference. So if you sit on the couch, you're not doin' much. So get off the couch, go meet some people and make things happen."

Rehder accepted the award Feb. 3 at the Grover Beach City Coucil meeting alongside his wife and daughter.
