A girl was taken to the hospital after being hit by a pickup truck in Atascadero Monday morning.
Atascadero police say it happened at 8:03 a.m. when the girl was crossing El Camino Real from East Mall.
The 12-year-old was in a crosswalk at the time and was hit by a driver heading southbound in the #2 lane on El Camino Real, according to police. She was treated for moderate injuries.
Detectives say the driver remained on scene but they're investigating speed as a possible contributing factor to the crash.
The posted speed limit is 25 mph in the area where the collision occurred due to the high number of pedestrians in the area, especially before and after school, police say.
