On Dec. 20, Caltrans will begin road construction on Highway 154 now that the Santa Barbara Cave Fire has been contained.
The section of highway affected sits between San Antonio Creek Road and Painted Cave Road and will be under construction through the winter months, according to a Caltrans press release.
The construction will cause a temporary slowing of the westbound passing lane due to the placement of a barrier. Signs will be visible to notify drivers of minor traffic delays.
The Cave Fire began back on November 25 and burned a total of 3,126 acres, according to Los Padres National Forest. No homes were damaged and no firefighters were harmed while the fire burned.
A burn scar from the Cave Fire is the reason the highway's catchment area needs to be bolstered.
Granite Construction of Santa Barbara is the contractor for this $1.3 million project.
