Santa Barbara Police arrested a juvenile for attempted murder following a fight at Ortega Park Monday morning that sent one man to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Officers were dispatched to a fight-in progress at Ortega Park at 3:36 a.m. Monday. When they got there police said officers found a stabbing victim in his forties. He was taken to Cottage Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

While in the hospital, the victim told police that he saw a group of men vandalizing an area of the park. The victim said when he asked the group to leave, they responded with profanities and verbally affiliated themselves with a street gang. The group then attacked and stabbed the victim and fled.

About an hour later, Santa Barbara Police found a 14-year-old juvenile trying to check into Cottage Hospital with his hand badly injured. A lot of evidence linked the juvenile to the crime, so the police department arrested him and charged him with attempted murder with a felony gang enhancement.

Police are still looking for other people involved.
