Oceano, Dana and Grover Beach elementary schools are receiving hundreds of donated books thanks to the local American Legion.

American Legion Auxiliary Post 136 in Arroyo Grande raised more than $3,000 in six weeks to buy the books after the organization's president saw the 'Give a Child a Book Campaign' on KSBY.

She feels that the students in the Lucia Mar School District need books as well.

“The best is some children are going to have a book of their very own and I hope that they cherish it like I cherished my first book,” said Throck Scudder, president of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 136.

KSBY’S 'Give a Child a Book Campaign' was so successful we were able to add an additional school to receive our book donations.

Both Arellanes Elementary in Santa Maria and Oceano Elementary will be receiving more than 1,700 books thanks to the campaign.
