Local police departments participate in National Night Out

Law enforcement agencies will be out across the Central Coast Tuesday night for National Night Out.

It is a nationwide event aimed to help boost connections between local police and their communities.

The Morro Bay Police Department is hosting an event at Cloisters Park from 5 to 7 p.m.

The Atascadero Police Department will be at Sunken Gardens from 5 to 7 p.m.

The San Luis Obispo Police Department will be holding an event at First Presbyterian Church, 981 Marsh St., beginning at 5 p.m.

Grover Beach police will be at 16th Street Park, 1700 Mentone Ave., from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

And the Santa Maria Police Department will be at Preisker Park from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Officers will be out talking to people about community programs like drug prevention, neighborhood watch and other crime efforts underway. Many of the events also include food and children's activities.

Approximately 16,000 communities participated in National Night Out last year.
