On Thursday night, nurses had a candlelight vigil to mourn the lives of healthcare workers who have died working amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Located at the San Luis Obispo County Courthouse Annex, the gathering was open to all central coast health workers.

The meeting was also started to demand that French Hospital in San Luis Obispo -- and all hospitals -- provide maximum personal protective equipment to healthcare workers.

"I came out tonight just to be in solidarity will all the other healthcare workers that are out there, not just nurses," said Deborah Bellocchi, a cardiac nurse at Marian Regional Medical Center. "I'm talking about the EVS employees and everyone else that are healthcare workers in San Luis Obispo."

It was also confirmed this week that 15 of San Luis Obispo County's 89 COVID-19 cases are healthcare workers.
