First responders were honored Thursday in Lompoc.
"The Salute to First Responders" event was held at St. Mary's Episcopal Church.
Among those in attendance were the Lompoc police and fire departments, Vandenberg Fire Department, Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office, Smitty's Towing and AMR.
Lompoc Police Chief Joe Mariani says it's an annual event hosted by the church in remembrance of 9/11.
Mariani spoke at the event, which also included a brief service and barbecue.
"Today is a day of remembrance but a day to also acknowledge the good work that first responders do, the people that go out, they face danger, they run to danger, they deal with chaos and conflict while other people are running away from it," Mariani said.
