Lompoc Police Department staff are taking on additional vehicle abatement duties as the department's Community Service Officer (CSO) positions are unfilled.
The department said it has towed more than 30 vehicles and cited about 15 others over the past three weeks.
An official said in a press release the CSO is responsible for abandoned vehicle abatement enforcement. The police department hopes to have the two CSO spots filled within the next few months.
The department also said it will continue to address the problem as time allows.
