Man arrested in Goleta after report of sexual assault

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office is investigating an attempted murder case in Goleta.

On Tuesday, Sept. 29, sheriff's officials say they arrested Fidel Lorenzana Lopez, 27, after he was identified as the suspect in an apparent attack that occurred in the 5400 block of Hollister Ave.

That evening, someone called 911 to report a sexual assault that had just occurred. The victim reportedly suffered serious injuries.

The sheriff's office says deputies searching the area for the suspect's vehicle located the car in the 900 block of Ward Dr. and the suspect was found in the area shortly thereafter.

Lopez was taken into custody and booked on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with intent to commit rape, assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury, false imprisonment, sexual battery, terrorist threats, robbery, dissuading a witness, giving false information to an officer, and battery.

He is currently in custody at the Santa Barbara County Main Jail with bail set at $1 million.
