Retired U.S. Marine Corps Major Victor Freudenberger celebrated his 100th birthday in San Luis Obispo on Friday.
Earlier this week, Major Freudenberger was recognized by the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors at their regular meeting. At the Las Brisas retirement community on Friday, Congressman Salud Carbajal presented him with a flag.
During his time in the Marines, Freudenberger fought in six major battles in Korea.
Today, he says he feels great and is in good health.
"My theory has always been 'use it or lose it' and even til this day we have class here every day for 30 minutes of exercise, balance, and light weights and I participate in that," Freudenberger said.
He adds that he's never smoked. He was married to his wife for 73 years.
