Vandenberg Air Force Base officials confirm an unarmed Minuteman III intercontinetal ballistic missile launched from the base early Wednesday morning.
The test missile launched in the first minute of the launch window at 1:13 a.m.
Officials with the 30th Space Wing say the Minuteman test helps to determine the weapon system's effectiveness, readiness and accuracy.
Test launches like this one typically happen several times a year at Vandenberg Air Force Base.
