Seven arrests were made during a sex registrant compliance operation check in northern Santa Barbara County this week.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office says 40 law enforcement officers from various local agencies took part in Tuesday's operation, which targeted 21 parolees and probationers at 20 different locations in Santa Maria, Orcutt, Guadalupe and Los Alamos.

Of those, a third were arrested and booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail for parole or probation violations, according to a sheriff's office press release, which says the purpose of the operation "was to verify that sex registrants remain in compliance with their registration requirements."

Officials add that two of those arrested have additional charges pending, including possession of child pornography.
