The pickleball courts at French Park in San Luis Obispo are now officially open.
Back in June, the San Luis Obispo City Council approved the installation of the courts.
French Park was selected as the best location because of its underutilized volleyball court and the availability of its basketball court, which was converted into three pickleball courts. The volleyball court was converted into a 72'x40' basketball area.
Getting the three courts approved and built took a while, but the SLO Pickleball Club says it was worth it, especially because it tends to get older people outside.
"That was our goal... to also bring some activity to the City of San Luis Obispo, to provide better recreation for older people," said Jean Hyduchak, club director and USAPA ambassador.
The courts will be run on a turn-based system similar to tennis court reservations, unless reserved through the city with a permit.
