SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — If you noticed some planes flying in formation over San Luis Obispo Saturday, that was the local organization of female pilots, the Ninety-Nines, coming together for an aviation event.
Dozens of women came out to learn more about flying.
This included a NASA pilot, an air racer, flight instructor and local resident who just celebrated her 60th year of flying.
One of the things they talked about was formation flying.
They say it takes precise turns, close tailing and staying perfectly aligned with the other aircraft.
"The Ninety-Nines is an organization for women pilots. Its mostly a general aviation pilots and some professional pilots. And we get together and share stories and fly together. And one of the big things we try to do is encourage younger women to pursue flying and we offer scholarships," said Liz Ruth, a member of the Ninety-Nines.
The Ninety-Nines organization has thousands of members from all over the world.
