The warm weather this holiday weekend had many looking for ways to beat the heat.

"We go to the beach every day, in Cambria there were some tide pools, the kids were downplaying in them, we did that every day." said beachgoer, Bill Johnson. "Sunsets, gorgeous sunsets, 75 degrees, sunny, just having a great time."

"I think just to get out since the whole COVID thing, just to get out after the holidays, just being stuck at home to have some family time, and enjoy our time together," said Linda Martinez.

Those who were out enjoying the outdoors also took the time to remember why this Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend is important.

"You look around and you see lots of different folks, lots of different cultures, and that's what I think he stood for, is people getting together, enjoying one another, respecting one another's rights, and just enjoying life," said Johnson.

Without people like him things would just always end up staying the same and they wouldn't change, so it's good that people like MLK or Rosa Parks, even if it's not a racial issue, religious or political, as long as they keep pushing for what they believe is right, people like us get to benefit," said Robert Shrader.
