Police make arrest in New Year's Day stabbing in Santa Maria

Santa Maria Police made an arrest in a stabbing that took place New Year's Day.

The stabbing happened at around 2:13 a.m. in the area of Boone Street and Thornburg.

When police arrived they found two people who suffered injuries.

One person had sustained a stab wound and was transported to Cottage Hospital. The other had suffered a head injury and was transported to Marian Medical Center.

Two days after the incident, police arrested Eduardo Garcia Barrueta, 18, of Santa Maria on Friday.

Barrueta was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail for attempted murder and a criminal street gang enhancement.

The two victims have since been treated and released from the hospitals.
