The grassroots group, Paso People’s Action, organized a rally in honor of the 57th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech on Aug. 28.
Around 100 people attended the event. Multiple speakers presented, and Donald Perry of the People’s Action Committee sang “We shall overcome” while the crowd sang along.
Perry said he was 10 years old when he watched the March on Washington. He said its rallies like these that help to educate and understand.
“We love America, don’t mistake our Black pride for white hatred,” Perry said. “We’ve always loved America our only wait is for America to love us back.”
According to an Instagram post by the Paso People’s Action group, the rally was also honoring Jacob Blake and Ramon Lopez.
