Water currently flowing in the Salinas River is from recent rainfall and not the result of water release from the Salinas Reservoir, according to the San Luis Obispo County Public Works Department.
The Salinas Reservoir, commonly known as Santa Margarita Lake, serves as a primary water supply source for the City of San Luis Obispo.
Public Works says because the river is naturally flowing, also called a "Live Stream," water can now be stored in the reservoir. When the "Live Stream" no longer exists, the county will resume releasing water from the reservoir to the Salinas River.
