Rep. Salud Carbajal honored United States military service members during the third annual Veteran's Breakfast at the Lompoc Veterans Memorial Building Wednesday morning.
The 24th District Congressman said the purpose of the event was "to have an opportunity to also connect with them but inform them of what I'm trying to do in Washington to improve their lives and their quality of life."
Among the policies discussed at the breakfast include the improvement of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) hospital system and how veterans receive their benefits.
Carbajal also talked about reintroducing "Homes for the Brave," legislation that may help veterans receiving disability compensation to be eligible for housing programs.
In the past, veterans' disability compensation was counted as their income. The reintroduction of the bill would not consider disability compensation veteran's income.
Carbajal also said at the breakfast he has plans to allocate $3-5 million in improve the VA phone system and the transportation system for veterans seeking medical care at the VA hospital.
